The aim of the event is to bring together leading researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore the latest advancements in sustainable lighting technologies, light pollution mitigation, and their impact on urban and natural environments.

Kerem Asfuroglu

Founder, Dark Source

Kerem Asfuroglu is the founder of Dark Source, an award-winning, independent lighting design studio driven by environmental values based in Ireland & the UK. Following his graduation from Wismar University – Architectural Lighting Design MA in 2010, Kerem pursued his professional design career in London for nearly a decade before setting up Dark Source in 2019. He has been awarded with the title of Dark Sky Defender by the Dark Sky International for advocating the importance of darkness through design. Some of his environmental lighting projects include the Newport Dark Sky Masterplan, Plas Y Brenin Outdoor Centre, Presteigne Dark Sky Community, Cloughjordan Ecovillage and Cumbria TAN Dark Sky Planning Policy.

Workshop on ovos moles - a conventual sweet made from eggs and sugar, which you'll want to take away with you, traditional to the city of Aveiro.

Boat Ride on a Moliceiro or Merchant Boat

Boat ride in the moliceiro or mercantile boat, along the four canals of the city of Aveiro, where you'll see emblematic sites such as the main Art Nouveau façades, the Rossio Garden, the Salt Pans, the Manuel Firmino Municipal Market, the Aveiro Congress Centre (Former Ceramics Factory), among others.

Visit to the salt pans where Aveiro salt is still produced by hand. You can learn about the production methods of this important local resource and watch the salt harvest (in summer).

Public attendance

The full audience pass includes lunch at the University and dinner at Mélia on October 10th, dinner on the October 11th, and access to all conference activities, including presentations, coffee breaks, “Exploring Aveiro” and “Trip to Álvaro”.

1-day passes include access to presentations, lunch and coffee-breaks on the 10th of October, with two options: non-student and student. Lunch on day 10th is subject to a limit, prioritizing full audience pass holders.

  • Full audience pass – 100€
  • 1-day pass (non-student) – 40€
  • 1-day pass (student) – 0€

Information on the conference registration

Payment methods

On the registration platform, you will find the different payment methods available for the Conference. Please note that the participant is responsible for filling in the details for the invoice (Please confirm with your Entity if you need to enter the VAT number and/or requisition/purchase number). Once you have filled in the invoice details, a proforma invoice will be available if required. After payment, your receipt will also be available on the platform. After the early bird, the registration platform automatically assumes the values defined for payments after the date defined as early bird. It does not include any insurance.

Registration Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • For Author registration there is no refund.
  • For Participant registration the following refund rules apply:
    • Before 31st of August there is a refund of 75% of the registration fee minus processing fee (if any).
    • After 31st of August there is no fee refund.
  • Cancellations must be made in writing to Virgínia Lopes: virginiablopes@ua.pt or idmais-slic25@ua.pt

Certificate of Attendee

One week after the end of the conference, your Certificate will be available on the registration platform.

Insurance and liability

The registration fee does not include personal or property insurance, and the name of the Conference Organization will not assume any responsibility for damages or losses to people or property during the event. Participants are therefore advised to make their own insurance arrangements as needed (e.g., travel, valuables, medical assistance, etc.) before traveling to the conference venue. If the conference is postponed or canceled entirely due to force majeure events, or due to circumstances not attributable to wilful misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the Conference Organization, participants cannot hold the Organization responsible for any damages, costs, or losses incurred, such as (but not limited to) travel and accommodation costs or other indirect losses and consequential damages.
